ALLERGIES
Dogs and cats commonly suffer from allergic diseases. Allergic reactions to environmental substances such as dust mites, pollen and mold cause itching, hair loss, inflammation and frequent rashes. Finding the cause of these allergic reactions is the most important step for successful treatment. Allergy testing and an allergy vaccine based on the test results is the treatment of choice for long-term management of a pets’ problem. Early diagnosis and treatment leads to improved results.

RECURRENT RASHES
Bacterial skin infections appear as pimples, scabs or patchy areas of hair loss. In chronic cases, the skin becomes thickened, darkly pigmented and malodorous. Frequent infections are often seen in dogs with underlying allergies, hormonal imbalances, mange mites or immunodeficiencies. Finding and correcting the underlying cause is the most important aspect of effective treatment.

ENDOCRINE DISEASES
Hormonal imbalances may cause hair loss and changes in pigmentation, weight gain and increased thirst and urination. Endocrine blood testing, ultrasound and other diagnostic procedures are performed to confirm the diagnosis and establish appropriate treatment.

PARASITIC DISEASES
The presence of mange mites (scabies or demodex) in the skin can cause itching, hair loss, scabs and rashes. A simple diagnostic procedure called a skin scraping is performed to search for the presence of skin parasites. Recent advances in therapies have lead to excellent management of these conditions.
